A group of 34 Democratic congressmen signed a letter asking to investigate the “suspicious” visit to the Capitol by trumpeters invited by some Republican lawmakers on the eve of the assault despite the tours being suspended, and which included sensitive areas for safety.

The letter states that some of the signatories “witnessed a large number of groups outside the complex (of the Capitol) on January 5,” the day before the violent assault on the legislative headquarters in which a Capitol policeman and four protesters, one of them a woman, were killed by a gunshot wound.
“What I saw were groups of people who didn’t have to be there, walking through the Congress offices (…) There were people walking down the aisles clearly dressed as people who took part in the (pro-Trump) rally, “Democratic Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, one of the signatories of the letter.
Congressmen recall that due to the pandemic public visits to the Capitol were canceled and only members of Congress could have facilitated access for this group of trumpeters.

Some congressmen claimed that at least two Republican colleagues could have sponsored these visits.
“The visitors who found some of the members of Congress signing this letter appear to be related to the demonstration at the White House the next day,” the text sent to House and Senate security officials said. as well as the acting head of the Capitol Police.

The White House rally, attended by outgoing President Donald Trump, was called to protest against the joint session of Congress that would certify that day the electoral victory of Democrat Joe Biden and that Trump has reiterated that it is the result of great fraud.
In his speech, Trump urged hundreds of attendees to march toward the Capitol and “show strength.” Before his speech ended several groups began trying to break the security perimeter of the complex and around 2 pm they managed to enter by force, forcing the eviction of the entire site for several hours.
The presence of these groups in the Capitol is certainly suspicious
“Members of the group that attacked the Capitol appear to have had unusually detailed knowledge of the Capitol complex’s map. The presence of these groups (those of the evening) in the Capitol is certainly suspicious, “the Democratic congressmen pointed out.
According to the congresswoman for New Jersey and also signatory of the document Mikie Sherrill, these groups invited by unidentified Republican congressmen were on a “reconnaissance” mission prior to the Jan. 6 assault.
Sherrill, a former Navy pilot, and other signatories, such as Spanberger, a former CIA agent, have military and intelligence experience, so they say they make the allegations with the certainty that an investigation is required.
