Deposit of shares after S&P 500, Nasdaq Records

US stocks fluctuated on Thursday and paused after major indices rose to record highs earlier in the week.

The S&P 500 fell 0.4% after five consecutive earnings sessions. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.4% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.4% to 35267.

Shares have risen recently, supported by broad gains in everything from financial and industrial stocks to technology stocks.

Looking ahead to the end of the week, money managers say the focus is mainly on comments expected Friday from Federal Reserve officials that could offer clues about central bank plans to cut stimulus measures . Some investors are betting the Fed may slow those plans if there are indications that the economic recovery is faltering.

Fresh data on Thursday showed the U.S. economy grew 6.6% on an annualized basis in the second quarter, an upward revision from last month’s initial release. Meanwhile, weekly unemployment claims reached 353,000, a slight increase from the previous week’s pandemic low. Economists expected the level to be relatively unchanged.
