Descendants: The Royal Wedding will pay tribute to the late Cameron Boyce in its history

The Descendants cast will be reunited by an animated special that will focus around the weddings of Mal (Dove Cameron) and Prince Ben (Mitchell Hope), who were engaged to Descendants 3 of 2019.

The Descendants: The Royal Wedding, which airs this summer at Disney, will mark the first installment of the franchise without the late Cameron Boyce.

“For many years our love was tested, but our connection could not be denied,” Cameron narrates in the teaser. “A million moments led to that, where the bride and groom will share a kiss.”

Disney Channel pays tribute to Boyce, who died at the age of 20 after suffering a seizure in July 2019, to continue honoring his memory.

“The absence of the character Carlos, played by the late Cameron Boyce, will be recognized in the plot and Boyce’s memory will be honored on the broadcast,” the channel wrote in a statement, obtained by TVLine.

Original stars Sofia Carson, Booboo Stewart, Sarah Jeffery, Chinese Anne McClain, Jedidiah Goodacre, Anna Cathcart, Dan Payne, Bobby Moynihan and Cheyenne Jackson appear in the family film.

Speaking of the film, Gary Marsh, president and creative director of Disney Branded Television, pointed to it as the “fantastic world of Descendants stories and characters anchored in Disney mythology.”

“Over the past six years, it has captivated young viewers and become one of Disney Channel’s largest entertainment franchises,” he continued.

Days after Boyce’s passing, Cameron remembered his late co-star with a commemorative video in honor of the actor.

“Cameron was always good and kind,” the 25-year-old cheerleader said. He was selfless and generous, he was magnanimous, and he was certainly a true philanthropist at just 20 years old. Loved by anyone who would have been lucky enough to experience its light and indescribable energy. Cameron was the ultimate example of a human being.

Dove posted a series, in which she cried over the actor’s passing and admitted she felt “really weird posting about Cameron on social media”.

“Cameron was one of my favorite living people in the world, even though I know this is not unique to me,” he said. “Cameron was magical: an angel of the earth.”

The Hairspray Live alum said Boyce has always been a loyal and affectionate friend to him, offering examples of his kind nature: “For the past six years, since I was only 14, Cameron has not known me since d infinite ledges, made me suffer from eating disorders, helped me get out of a dark relationship and through endless breakdowns.

Dove opened up about their interactions on set, recalling lovely details about the professional chemistry they shared.

“He would whisper to me the dance moves on live TV when he didn’t know what he was doing or he would take his hand quietly to communicate to me without words when we both knew we were thinking the same thing,” he said. “I can’t count on my hands the number of times we’ve ruined something because we couldn’t stop making each other laugh.”

He also called Boyce “arguably the most talented person we’ll ever meet,” and noted that his actions when the cameras were off were just as magnanimous.
