NEW DELHI: Afghan citizens who came to India before the Taliban took control of most of Afghanistan say they do not want to return despite having financial difficulties here.
Many of them, who arrived in India days before the fall of Ashraf Ghani’s government in Afghanistan, are finally working in local shops and restaurants.
Haroon, a 25-year-old who arrived here just five days before the Taliban took control, said: “I came to India to study on August 10, I have my family in Afghanistan and I’m facing a huge financial crisis here and abroad. To survive and make a living, I’m working in a restaurant here. ”
He said the situation on his land was very bad as many companies have been destroyed and monetary support is collapsing
When asked if he would return, Haroon said hesitantly, “Until the Taliban take control of Afghanistan, I will not return. If they see my visa from India, I will have problems.”
Shakib, 27, who worked with Afghan police escaped to India a few months ago, said: “The situation is not right there, six months ago it was fine, but then the Taliban attacked those carrying the ‘uniform. I had no choice’ but to escape the country. I don’t have a lot of work here and the rent for the accommodation is also very high, but I am still happy with the Indian government. ”
The Afghan national does not want to return to his home country until the Taliban take control.
Narrating his ordeal, Nasib, a 24-year-old who arrived in India on August 13, said he fled the country after hearing that the Taliban had begun capturing large provinces such as Herat and Kandahar.
Nasib said, “We used to have jobs in Afghanistan before the Taliban took control, but after we came to power we didn’t have jobs. I don’t have a lot of money. I’m surviving on the money I bring with me. I won’t go in Afghanistan. until the Taliban are there. ”
Meanwhile, the Taliban, who captured Kabul on August 15, have delayed the announcement of the formation of the government in Afghanistan.
