Destiny 2
Bungie
While this goal has been pretty clear Bungie’s goal for a while, to bring the Destiny universe to more media than video games, they now explain things explicitly in the new to-do lists meant to make that dream come true.
Seen by TheGamePost, Bungie has a new list among its dozens of open positions for a senior executive in development for film, television and transmedia. And that’s exactly what it sounds like. Here is the position and its relationship to the universe of destiny:
“By informing the executive creative director of Destiny Universe, you will be promoting projects that extend the Destiny franchise to new categories, including television, film, book, comic and audio formats. As a storyteller and “guardian” of Destiny’s IP, you will identify, select, guide, collaborate and provide feedback to third parties and partners that will allow them to tell additional myths to the Destiny universe that will delight our fans as they capture hearts and minds. of new audience “.
I think the “Executive Creative Director of Destiny Universe” is Luke Smith now after he and Mark Noseworthy stepped up beyond overseeing just the games. Bungie also recently hired a former CBS executive on its board of directors, and it’s clear that multimedia is in the future for the franchise in a big way.
We don’t know what direction this will take, but presumably the idea is “all of the above”. We just saw tiny Destiny’s expansion pieces into the past in things like the occasional comic or the Grimoire Anthologies band game. But clearly, the goal is to produce something on a large scale.

The biggest option, of course, would be some kind of live action, big-budget movie series, or a TV series. A few years ago, we may have put it in the “oh no, another terrible adaptation of the next video game” category, but there has been a shift in everyone engaging in game-inspired content or games. Netflix has The Witcher (yes, adapted from books, but influenced by games) and HBO is putting a surprising amount of money into its adaptation of The Last of Us.
Going down the “ladder”, a common idea is that Destiny could make an animated adaptation, which could still be of extremely high quality, the gold standard being the adaptation of the animated game Castlevania that went become one of the best Netflix series.
What about books? I’m just saying I know at least a science fiction author who would love to write something set in the universe of Destiny. Someone who also writes articles about the game every day. It’s me, someone is me. But in all seriousness, it’s easy to see how Destiny’s universe could expand with real novels set in the franchise’s past and present. A common thought every time it appears is how lots of potential stories could be adapted to multimedia outside of games, and I think most people assume that any Destiny project no adapt the games directly (imagine you start with the chopped vanilla story of Destiny 1, no way). The list seems to indicate that, saying it would be “additional myths to the universe of destiny.”
I thought we might have a hair on Destiny’s future media plans on the Witch Queen show, but that didn’t happen, so we’ll have to wait a while longer. And of course they are still staffing for this to happen, so it may be a while before something official is announced, and even with my ear on the ground, I still haven’t heard anything about what they could do. be working. Regardless, I can’t wait to see what they like.
