Destiny 2Umung Engrams and Prismatic Recaster from season 11 will return to season 13, Bungie announced in this week’s blog entry. This is great news, as it has been one of the best loot of the game’s recent past.
Unlike most of the legendary Engrams of Destiny 2, which are deciphered in random equipment over which you have no control, the Threshold Engrams can be “refocused” on the Prismatic Recaster (a strange tub of space magic spoon) on specific pieces of gear most likely to have certain advantages or statistics. There is still some RNG involved, but it is far from the driving force behind the routine. Also, the weapons with which Umbral Engrams could decipher were pretty good. The whole progression system was so popular, in fact, now Bungie plans to get it back, but with extra abilities.
“The Prismatic Recaster returns as a kiosk with the ability to change Threshold Engrams into Focused Threshold Engrams, which contain a smaller boot table,” the study writes. “Because Threshold Engrams is here to stay, the new recaster will have different pages for each season and you can focus the engrams on the season you want.”
This is part of Bungie’s new commitment to reducing the seasonal “FOMO” (fear of getting lost) and making sure new missions and activities added every few months are maintained throughout the year instead of disappearing once the new one begins. season. For example, Season of the Hunt’s Wrathborn Hunts and the corresponding story missions will continue until the end of the latest version of the game. Beyond light expansion. Meanwhile, Umbral Engrams and the Recaster will provide a new means to get specific loot from previous seasons without being completely at the mercy of RNG. It’s a lot of fun to watch.

At the same time, like all things in Destiny 2, this news cuts in several ways. Am I excited for one of the game’s best loot mechanics to return? Of couse. I want to work on upgrading the Recaster again in order to have a better chance of unlocking the exact equipment I want? God no. It remains to be seen what loot Umbral Engrams will contain next season and what the re-equipment of the new Recaster will entail, but I’m skeptical, I don’t think it repeats tasks I’ve already finished. And of course, approaching all of that, is the specter of the sunset that gives all the loot you get. Destiny 2 an expiration date.
The other big news this week is that Bungie is adding a new level of titles to the game that will allow players to shred and “prestige” the basic titles (Flawless, Conqueror, Unbroken, Dredgen) that they have already completed. In doing so, a gold border will be added. At the end of the season, however, those boundaries will disappear, encouraging players to complete new challenges to achieve a super cool state again the following season. I’ve never been very invested in titles and wins, but I’ve always admired those who have them and the little badges that appear on the screen when you inspect the construction of a player who has them.
But it’s the permanence that makes them so special and adding a golden hit that resets every two months seems like one more symptom of Destiny 2 concentrating too seasonally. Like the inside and outside cycling content, and the sunset booty, some aspects of the game are starting to feel like a rat race more than ever, and I’m not here. But at least Umbrals Engrams are back.
