A viral video from TikTok appears to explain why Hailey Bieber abruptly put on sunglasses on the red Met Gala carpet. In the small clip, which has garnered more than 1.5 million views in just 18 hours after it was released, a crowd can be heard repeatedly shouting “Selena, Selena, Selena” while the 24-year-old model her husband Justin Bieber pose for photographers at the Sept. 13 event. The song, in reference to Justin’s famous ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, allegedly caused Hailey to break up and ask her team for sunglasses to cover her eyes.
Amidst the commotion, Justin seems to be talking about “don’t cry, don’t cry” in an apparent attempt to comfort his wife. Their love behavior in the TikTok video matches some of the couple’s professional photos uploaded to places like Getty Images (like the photo above).
The Met Gala coincided with the third wedding anniversary of the Biebers courts, which would make the singing of “Selena” even more emotional if it were true. Another video, taken from a different angle from the couple, features the same singing and more comments from Gomez fans.
Gómez and Bieber, 27, came out again and again from late 2010 to early 2018.
Billie Eilish’s heartbreaking song, “Happier Than Ever,” tracks the viral video posted by TikTok user @returnofbizzle, adding another layer of emotion to the clip.
In another TikTok video showing the same moment, Ireland’s cousin and model partner, Baldwin de Hailey, defended the Biebers in the comments section. “They’re one of the happiest, most in-love couples I’ve ever had,” wrote Ireland, who is the daughter of actors Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. “They don’t care about them.” Your comment has gotten over 20,000 likes on September 15th.

Hailey, who wore a black Saint Laurent sheath dress with a sunken neckline along with a matching Bieber, was seen smiling as they arrived at the annual charity event before appearing visibly shaken after the apparent singing.
Hailey proceeded to put on her sunglasses.
And the couple kept posing to take pictures.
