Did you use H&R Block to file your taxes? They probably got your stimulus check :: WRAL.com

– Some H&R Block customers discovered on Tuesday that their stimulus checks were deposited in an account other than their own.

The U.S. Treasury Department began issuing $ 600 stimulus checks to taxpayers last week as part of the government’s latest effort to alleviate the pandemic.

Carlos Peppers said he was worried when he learned the check was deposited in a bank account with a number he did not recognize.

“To me, when I first looked at it, it seemed like a scam,” Peppers said.

The account belongs to H&R Block, which Peppers used to file its taxes last year.

Numerous H&R Block and TurboTax customers deposited their money into a refund transfer account that is typically set up to transfer tax returns.

“I’m a little overwhelmed because I have questions like, ‘Why can’t you deposit it into my account?’ “because that takes me my time,” Peppers said.

“The IRS determines where the second stimulus payments were sent, and in some cases the money was sent to a different account than the first stimulus payment last spring,” H&R Block said in a statement.

The company should transfer the money to customer accounts by the end of the week.

“The money should have been in my account,” an irritated Peppers said.

Chase Bank customers also experienced problems with stimulus payments.

Anthony Pope said his payment appeared on his account and then disappeared before reappearing hours later.

“In all honesty, I thought someone had hacked my bank account because I had problems with my bank account before,” Henderson’s Pope said.

Chase officials said they are aware of the problem with some customers and that the stimulus money goes back to their customers ’accounts.
