Disneyland will serve as the COVID-19 vaccine site in Orange County – NBC Los Angeles

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim has been established as the first super dispensing point (POD) site for COVID-19 vaccines in Orange County and will open later this week, officials announced Monday.

“Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has stepped up to host the county’s first Super POD site, which has done a monumental job in our immunization distribution process.” said incumbent President Andrew Do, first district, in a county. statement announcing the site. “We sincerely thank the support of the Orange County Fire Authority, our cities and our residents as we continue to implement COVID-19 vaccinations throughout the county.”

According to the county, the site will have the opportunity to vaccinate thousands of residents daily.

“It’s important to vaccinate as many people willing as possible for COVID-19, and we need the space to do that,” Superintendent Donald P. Wagner, third district, said in the county statement. “I thank Disneyland Resort and the city of Anaheim for stepping up the shared effort to protect OC residents from the virus.”

The Disneyland site is expected to be operational later this week, coinciding with a schedule similar to the one in Los Angeles that changes Dodger Stadium from a super COVID-19 test site to a super vaccination site.

The site will follow state guidelines and will only provide shots to people eligible for the vaccine. Currently, the state only allows people who are in “phase 1a” to receive vaccines, with the group recently expanded to include anyone who is 75 years of age or older, according to the county statement.

Only people by appointment and going through Phase 1 will receive vaccines at the Anaheim complex, the county said.

“The coronavirus has caused a public health crisis and economic devastation,” Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu said in the county statement. “With this great place, we will start to overcome both. Every vaccination given in Anaheim will help save lives and accelerate the reopening and recovery of our city. “
