Do you have an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine? This is what you can expect after getting your shot

SAINT ANTHONY – Appointments for COVID-19 vaccines available in the San Antonio area are filling up, meaning many will receive the first dose soon. But what can you expect after receiving a vaccine against COVID-19? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers some guidelines to patients before they head to a place of administration.

After receiving a vaccine, you are likely to experience flu-like side effects, which can affect your ability to perform some daily activities, according to the CDC.

According to the CDC, the most common side effects after receiving the vaccine include pain and swelling in the arm where the vaccine was given and fever, chills, headaches, and fatigue in the rest of the body.

The CDC tells patients to call their doctor if they experience increased redness or tenderness at the injection site or if common side effects do not go away within a few days.

Patients should be reminded that they must receive a second dose of the vaccine to get its full effect, according to the CDC.
