the Miami Marlins they’re adding Adam Duvall to their gardens, and that pickup could also take veteran Garrett Cooper out of the Miami Beach fish tank. Cooper’s status with the team is in doubt now that Duvall is boarding, according to famed journalist Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. the Los Angeles Dodgers they have already asked about Cooper, reported popular reporter Craig Mish of SportsGrid.
It is unknown if Miami would seriously consider switching to Cooper, but it could be considered redundant due to Duvall’s signature. Both players are right-handed hitters able to line up in the corner gardens, and although Cooper has been mostly a first baseman, the Marlins have another starter right there in Jesus Aguilar.
If there is no universal DH in 2021, Cooper could end up elsewhere. Cooper, who turned 30 on Christmas Day, has been a productive and affordable part of the Marlins ’offensive for the past two years.
He was certainly among his best hitters last season, dropping 283/353/500 (134 WRC +) with six homers in 133 appearances on the plate. His track record of mixing a respectable offense (114 WRC + in his career) with defensive versatility, not to mention his remaining three years of team control and his $ 1.9mm salary in 2021, would make him a chip quality exchange for Miami.
The Dodgers are known to give great value to players who can line up in various positions, so Cooper seems to fit in with the reigning World Series champions. Maybe he could see time at first base alongside players like Max MUNCY, Cody Bellinger and Edwin Rius, and join Bellinger, Mookie Betts, Chris Taylor and AJ Pollock as field-capable veterans on the Dodgers roster.
