OAKLAND – Clayton Kershaw struck out eight in seven good innings to condemn the Athletics to their worst start to the season in more than a century. The Los Angeles Dodgers won 5-1 Tuesday in Oakland, who have yet to win a game, and signed their fifth straight win.
Mookie Betts connected on his first homer of the season, a lone batter down to the center-left, in the ninth. Max MUNCY and Edwin Rius also homered for the Dodgers (5-1), World Series champions.
Kershaw (1-1), who had a bleak task when he charged with the loss to Colorado in the first game of the season, was much more focused on Tuesday. He admitted a run and 4 hits, gave no tickets and retired 20 of 22 after Ramon Laureano’s double tug in the first. Chris Bassitt (0-2) charged with defeat.
With a 0-6 lead, the Athletics have matched the worst start in the history of their franchise. The Philadelphia Athletics also began the 1916 season with six straight losses.
Oakland and Atlanta (0-4) are the only teams that haven’t won in the big ones yet.
For the Dodgers, Puerto Rican Edwin Rius 4-2 with two runs and one tow.
For Atlético, the Dominican Ramon Laureano 4-2 with a boost. Venezuelan Elvis Andrus 3-0.
