CNN’s Don Lemon on Monday sang Oprah Winfrey’s explosive interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, and said he was not surprised by the couple’s racism between members of the royal family and the British media. .
“I don’t think Oprah, I don’t think anyone who looks at her, especially any person of color, is surprised that there is racism” in the British royal family, Lemon said. “On this is based the monarchy: inheritance, hierarchy, caste system, bloodlines.”
Lemon argued that “the whole institution is based on a racist structure” and, considering such a systemically damaged system, it was not surprising that the royal family had cared about the potentially dark skin of Archie, Meghan’s son. and Harry.
The couple told Winfrey that this, along with the “fanatical” British press, had contributed to their decision to move to America, adding that Harry’s family had so far not been willing to apologize for any role. which they would have had in driving the couple abroad.

“There shouldn’t be an‘ Oh my God, the British family is racist, ’of course they’re racist,” Lemon laments. “This is what the whole monarchy is based on: racism, the family that is supposed to be there only by birth. And so far by birth, they have only been royal whites on the British throne.
The CNN host added that he was also not surprised by Harry’s statement that he had ignored his family’s prejudices until he was forced to confront his mixed-race wife.
“That part didn’t surprise, because, as we always say, it’s what privilege is always about,” said Lemon, who added, “If you don’t have to deal with it, it doesn’t exist for you.”
Lemon raised his own marriage to Tim Malone, a “white man from the far east of Long Island,” and noted that only by marrying a “black man from the south” had he really come to a calculation as to to racism.
“Of course, I’m not surprised that Harry was introduced to racism through his wife and felt it in a personal way,” Lemon said. “That’s how it goes … Harry now has a black boy and a black woman, so he’s personal.”
