The couple had been in trouble for several months and had even sought help in a church group, but it all ended in tragedy.
About 8 days after Xiomara had decided to separate from his life partner, for the second time, and had gone to his parents’ house, about 600 meters from where he shared a home with Carlos Humberto Martínez, the father of his second daughter.
On Wednesday afternoon, April 14, Xiomara was alone with her two children aged 11 and 2 and a half, when her ex-partner arrived.
Carlos ordered the children to shop at the store, across the narrow dusty street that runs alongside the railway line to the community of Los Santos, in Cojutepeque, Cuscatlán.
It was then that Carlos took advantage of the children’s absence to kill Xiomara with a revolver and then shoot himself. The corpses were left side by side inside the small ground floor apartment.

According to authorities, the scene indicates that the 26-year-old struggled with her attacker.
Xiomara and Carlos had been together for 4 years and had in common a 2 and a half year old daughter.
According to Xiomara’s family, the couple had been in trouble for several months and had even sought help in a church group, but eventually separated.
“They tried to take things back because they had a daughter in common, for her sake they got a little closer to God’s things but it didn’t work out,” relates one of the relatives.
Although relatives say they have no evidence that she had suffered physical violence, acquaintances had told them that she may have been beaten by her partner.

One of the neighbors commented that the young woman was suffering from violence, but the women do not dare to report it because “justice is not sure who is protected and who is not, they are detained for a while and this then becomes expensive,” she claimed.
Xiomara’s sister describes her as a very friendly person and a good mother. The young woman had been working for eight years doing housework.

Carlos is described by the neighbors as a calm young man who did not get into trouble. “He came to the church group on Saturday, I don’t understand what happened to him,” one of the neighbors commented.
On Thursday afternoon, the two families mourned their loved ones separately. The rest of Xiomara were guarded in center of Cojutepeque, whereas Carlos was guarded in the Hermitage of the community the Hope. The two will be buried in separate graves in the municipal cemetery of Cojutepeque.
