Former US President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, were discreetly vaccinated against covid-19 last January before leaving the White House, local media revealed on Monday.

It is unclear whether Trump, who for months refused to wear a mask in public to protect himself from the disease, and the former lady received the first or two doses of the vaccine.
Nor has it transpired which of the vaccines approved at the time for emergency use in the United States – that of Moderna or Pfizer – were administered to them.
An adviser to the former president consulted by the newspaper The New York Times confirm that Trump received the vaccine in private in January. On Sunday, Trump assured in a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that “everyone should go get their injection”, in his first public speech since the end of his term, last January 20.
The former governor’s handling of this issue contrasts with that of his successor, Democrat Joe Biden, who was publicly administered both doses of the vaccine and encouraged his compatriots to emulate his example.

In late September, Trump became infected with covid-19, with his wife, and had to be hospitalized for three days at a Washington DC health center, from which he came out after being given the experimental cocktail of antibodies from the pharmaceutical Regeneron and the antiviral Remdesivir.
A government official said in mid-December that Trump would not be given the covid-19 vaccine until he was recommended by the White House medical team. During his tenure, Trump acknowledged that he had underestimated the severity of the disease at the beginning of the pandemic so that panic would not spread among the American public, in a series of interviews with journalist Bob Woodward for his book “Rage.”
