The actions of Donald Trump before the assault on Congress on January 6 constitute one “Betrayal of historical proportions”, Democratic lawmakers accused the former U.S. president’s political trial, according to his arguments released Tuesday.

“The president incited a violent mob to attack the United States Capitol” and his “desire to remain in power at any cost is a betrayal of historic proportions.” which “demands a conviction” at the end of this trial that begins Feb. 9, they noted.
the so-called “Political Judge Managers”, All Democrats, argued in the extensive document of 77 pages that Trump, when speaking in front of a crowd of supporters in Washington on January 6th, Led them into a “frenzy” shortly before they marched to the Capitol building.

The subsequent riot left five dead and threatened the lives of lawmakers and then-Vice President Mike Pence.
“In a serious betrayal of his oath, President Trump incites a violent mob to attack the United States Capitol” and prevented Congress from confirming Joe Biden as the winner of the November election, lawmakers wrote, led by Congressman Jamie Raskin.

“If provoking an insurrectionary riot against a joint session of Congress after losing an election is not an attributable crime, it is difficult to imagine what it would be,” the writ states.
“If this is not condemned, future leaders would be encouraged to try to retain power by each and every means, and would suggest that there is no line that a president cannot cross,” he points out.
Trump was indicted by the House of Representatives on January 13 for the second time in a political trial, after being acquitted by another in February 2020.
But Trump’s term ended on Jan. 20, Before the start of the Senate trial, which led Republican lawmakers to argue that it is unconstitutional to subject a president to a removal process after he has left office.
It’s an argument Trump’s lawyers are expected to make in his defense, but Democrats have already flatly rejected that reasoning. “There is no ‘January exception’ for political trial or any other provision of the Constitution,” they wrote in reference to the date stipulated for the end of the presidential term, and added that a president must be held accountable for his conduct “from his first day in office until the last.”
The writing of Democratic lawmakers points to several videos, which are expected to be used as evidence at trial, that they say show Trump urging the crowd to commit violent acts and protesters shouting “Hang up Mike Pence!” and looking for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Since the November 3 election, and for many weeks after,
Trump alleged that his re-election was stolen from him through massive fraud. Dozens of courts in several states found the argument unfounded.
But political trial managers emphasized that Trump’s constant insistence on unproven allegations of a fraudulent election prompted his supporters to support efforts to revoke Biden’s victory.
When those efforts failed, Democrats wrote, Trump “Summoning a mob in Washington, he urged them to a frenzy and aimed them like a cannon loaded down Pennsylvania Avenue.” in the direction of the Capitol.
