Donald Trump would beat Biden in the presidential rematch: poll

Donald Trump would beat Joe Biden if his election confrontation were repeated today, according to a new poll that comes as the president’s approval rating continues to fall after the country’s chaotic and deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan.

A plurality of 47% of voters would favor Trump in a hypothetical re-election of last year’s election, according to a poll released Friday at Emerson College. Only 46% of respondents supported Biden, and 6% said they would look for another candidate.

And nearly four in ten Democrats in Emerson’s poll (39%) are prepared to trust Biden, saying they want someone else to be the party’s boss in 2024.

Meanwhile, Trump remains the favorite among Republicans, with 67% of them in his corner if he re-nominates for the Republican Party.

The national poll of 1,200 registered voters took place between August 30 and September 1, before Friday’s miserable jobs raised new doubts about the management of Biden’s economy.

The results represent a major slide in support of Biden, who led the White House with 51% of the vote to Trump’s 47% in November.

Meanwhile, RealClearPolitics ’average poll finds Biden’s underwater job approval rating at more than 4 percent, its worst approval rating to date.

More than 49 percent of respondents now disapprove of Biden’s performance in office, compared to 45 percent in favor.
