ELfriday night Stephen Colbert of The Late Show he was finally able to realize a dream he has had for a year: to welcome the program to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert (practically, of course).
“I wanted to have you on top for a year. We have tried to have you every week for a year. We could never get you, ”said Colbert. “Around January 20, your schedule really opened. What changed? ”
“All!” Exclaimed Dr. Fauci.
Yes, while former President Trump is on vacation in Mar-a-Lago and trying to get more than his fair share of credit for the rapid production of multiple COVID-19 vaccines, President Biden has taken what Dr. -cort press to get more vaccine available. “About 2 million people have been vaccinated a day and the process has gone so well. Biden says by May 1 all U.S. adults will be eligible for vaccines against COVID-19.
Dr. Fauci referred primarily to improving coordination between the federal and state governments under President Biden.
“In all aspects of the effort, Stephen, is that before, in the previous administration, a lot of discretion, a lot of authority, a lot of decision was left to the states themselves … but what we have now is cooperation, collaboration and a synergy between the federal government and the states to get things done, ”Dr. Fauci explained. “I’ve always felt, over the previous year, that there should have been more interaction in terms of synergies.”
Colbert proceeded to ask Dr. Fauci when things would return to normal and replied that we could begin to see small audiences taking various forms of entertainment in the fall. But for now, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases urged Americans to keep a mask on and socially distance themselves until infections decrease, even if they have already been vaccinated.
“At the moment, although the cases are going down with a sharp decline, in the last two weeks it has started a bit on the plateau and, in the case of plateaus, it is at an unacceptably high level: about 50-60,000 new infections per day, ”Dr. Fauci said. “And every time we see a plateau at this level, there is always a risk of increasing again. What we no all i want to do is rise again. We want it to keep going down. “
