On Friday it was time to count on the house’s minority leader, Kevin McCarthy (R-California), when he released a five-minute video about himself reading a book by Dr. Seuss.
But the reading then left many people on Twitter confused as to how far the top-ranked House Republican was trying to get.
The decision of Dr. Seuss Enterprises to extract six books containing racist and obsolete images this week outraged GOP lawmakers and Fox News personalities, and many falsely blamed the private company’s decision to stop publishing on Democrats and President Joe Biden.
With his video, McCarthy seemed to join the criticism. But critics noted that he read “Green Eggs and Ham,” which is not one of the books that have been taken out.
CNN’s Don Lemon couldn’t believe the trick of former President Donald Trump’s key ally, who voted to topple the 2020 election result.
“While Americans are desperate to get vaccinated and desperate for COVID relief. That’s what Kevin McCarthy is doing right now, ”the CNN Tonight anchor said Friday night.
“It simply came to our notice then. These are your Republican leaders, “he added, assassinating McCarthy for having nothing better to do than” provoke this false outrage. “
“It has nothing to do with Democrats, nothing at all,” Lemon continued. “And Dr. Seuss in particular is still in distribution, so none of them make sense. They play. Will you fall in love with it? ”
Twitter users were equally confused and frightened by the call:
