Draft NFL Trade Bases for Cowboys No. 10 pick

The NFL draft is coming up next week and the teams are doing their best to come up with strategies to build their lists for the 2021 season.

Usually, it’s the time when phones start ringing when they move up or down, and with selection number 10 at their fingertips, the Dallas Cowboys are in a prime place to receive some calls. Executive Vice President Stephen Jones recently joined K&C Masterpiece at 105.3 The Fan, and when asked if teams have started touching the Cowboy’s phone lines, he said so.

“It’s really just starting to recover in terms of: I’m sure it’s hot at the top because you could, we’ve already seen that a trade has been made,” Jones said. “But probably where we are, we are starting to receive some calls and I think it will only recover as we get closer to next Thursday. It will only recover. Finally, they tell you, “Hey, if our man is there, we’re interested in going all the way to the selection” and maybe we’d even like to fill in some things like what would be needed and that sort of thing. So start putting yourself in a mode where you’re prepared for a particular team to call their player, whether it’s a quarterback, a linebacker, or a defensive player. They won’t usually reveal it, which shouldn’t surprise you. But they say, ‘Hey, we have a player, two or three, that if they’re there, we could be willing to be aggressive and give you something to go up to this selection.’ “

The Cowboys would probably change instead of go up if the right offer materialized. A situation where a team was looking to move up to select a quarterback, or say a division rival who wanted to target a specific player, would probably require a bonus for Dallas to move away from the spot. Getting a future first-round pick may or may not be possible, but a second-round pick could serve them well.

That could make the Cowboys able to grab a front-line corner plus an elite safety. while allowing them to tackle the inside of their defensive line with the 44th selection.

There are numerous configurations that could turn the reward into finishing as one of the worst teams of 2020 in multiple perspectives.
