Drew Brees ’startling video blows up speculation about retirement

Drew Brees doesn’t look like anyone is about to retire from the NFL.

Brees coach Todd Durkin posted a video on social media on Saturday showing the Saints quarterback pushing a weighted sled through a parking lot and including the captain: “I’m not sure WHY it’s so cra- cra today, but something needs to be prepared … “

Brees was expected to retire shortly after the Saints’ season ended in a playoff loss to the Buccaneers on Jan. 17. But he hasn’t done it yet, and the longer he waits, the more he suggests he might be reconsidering his options.

The video of his fierce exercise will not allay those suspicions. Here is an excerpt from the comment on the video: “Drew, what are you doing? Okay, he never did! . . . I don’t know what he does. . . It had never been done before! . . . You needed a challenge … This is a new record because it was never made! ”

Brees was also expected to retire last season before reversing course in March and signing a two-year contract.

“Last year he joined the Saints coaching staff in the Pro Bowl and they cried because this was their last game. He was retiring.” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said this on The Rich Eisen Show this week. “And then he took some free time and here he is back in March.”

Recently, Brees agreed to lower his salary in 2021 by at least $ 25 million in the league to help the Saints navigate the salary cap. This was interpreted as a sign of withdrawal.

But Brees is pushing this sled as a man who plans to avoid pass-rushers, who doesn’t care about keeping his dad fit.

Few athletes get a championship-winning final like John Elway, Peyton Manning and Michael Strahan, but Brees ’last game was a three-interception debacle against Tom Brady. It wasn’t up to the NFL all-time leader to get through the garden.

“I do not say he will return. I still think he’s going to retire, “Schefter said.
