Driver of stolen ambulance leads police in Dallas chase – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

An hour-long chase with the driver of a stolen Dallas Fire-Rescue ambulance ended Monday afternoon when the ambulance appeared trapped and the driver tried to walk out of police on foot.

Dallas police said the ambulance was taken from No. 53 fire station Monday morning and was seen in the early afternoon in southeast Dallas County.

A one-hour chase with the driver of a stolen Dallas Fire-Rescue ambulance ended Monday afternoon when the ambulance appeared trapped and the driver tried to walk out of police.

The man behind the wheel of the ambulance refused to stop and led police in a chase for nearly two hours that traveled from Dallas County to Collin County and through the cities of Plano, McKinney and Princeton. .

At times, the driver intentionally drove into oncoming traffic, but no accidents have been reported in connection with the chase.

It was back in McKinney where the driver tried to lose police, sheriff’s deputies and state soldiers again in a residential neighborhood, often going off-road and crossing lawns trying to escape.

Apparently, the ambulance hit a curb and the driver was quickly rescued and tried to flee on foot from police while also trying to keep his pants down.

Moments later, the man was cornered in an enclosed area and several officers were arrested near Joyce Way and Tension Lane.

Officers from the Dallas Police Department, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Texas State soldiers, and several other agencies, helped close the chase.

An ambulance was taken from the same fire station in February 2020 and was driven to Louisiana.

Ambulance hunting

  • By 1:10 p.m., the chase was underway in southeast Dallas along Interstate 20 near Lawson. The driver was heading to Kaufman County.
  • The car drove around Forney and returned on I-20 to I-635, where it headed north to US 75.
  • Around 2:05 p.m., the driver was heading north on U.S. 75 toward Plano.
  • Shortly before 2:15 p.m., the driver veered off the road and entered a residential neighborhood, driving through the back alleys.
  • Around two-thirty in the afternoon, the driver evaded several Dallas police officers, Dallas County sheriff’s deputies and Texas state soldiers trying to block the neighborhood’s exit.
  • About two-thirty in the afternoon the driver boarded Texas 121 at McKinney, but left shortly after.
  • By two-thirty in the afternoon, the driver was heading for traffic approaching U.S. Highway 380, near Princeton.
  • At 2:37 p.m., the driver was heading west on the American 380.
  • At 2:43 p.m., the driver pulled the ambulance off the road briefly to avoid spiked strips, a retractable device used by police to flatten car tires.
  • At 2:55 p.m., the driver was trapped while on the road in the ambulance and, while trying to lift his pants, tried to flee on foot from the officers. The driver was arrested moments later near Joyce Way and Tension Lane.
