Drone images show the aftermath of the California highway collapse

California transportation officials post images of incredible drones about the aftermath of the scenic collapse of the states ’coastal highway.

The stunning aerial images show the huge stretch of the famous Pacific Coast Highway engulfed by a deep crack in the cliffs that bluff the Pacific Ocean. The bird’s eye view reveals how huge sections of the north and south lanes sink into the sea amid torrential rain storms on Friday.

“Watch this amazing drone video about washing # Hwy1 in Rat Creek about 15 miles south of #BigSur. Our teams are securing it on site, assessing the damage and starting cleaning / repair,” the Department of California Transportation he tweeted Sunday.

Officials are still assessing the damage and have been unable to give a timeline to complete the huge commitment needed to repair the central stretch of California Highway 1.

The road, which stretches for 656 miles along the Golden State coast, is closed for miles in both directions of the disaster.

No injuries were reported.
