Durham County announces a break in vaccine scheduling due to limited supply; existing appointments will be respected :: WRAL.com

The Durham County Public Health Department announced Thursday that it will temporarily close schedule of vaccine appointments due to a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines, which will take effect immediately.

The public health department will also not add new vaccination dates to its online booking site until a later date to be determined.

At this time, appointments for currently scheduled vaccinations will not be canceled or postponed, although some appointments beginning Monday, February 1 will be moved from the location of Durham Health Department to the location of South High School. . People who need to transfer appointments to Southern High School will be contacted by phone or email.

“We are very grateful that we do not have to cancel any permanent appointments, but, as Secretary Cohen explained to the public at her press conference earlier this week, the unfortunate reality is that demand far exceeds offer, “said health director Rod Jenkins. . “Durham County has an initial allocation of 600 first doses for the next three weeks and we are not sure when our allocation will increase. It is best to stop scheduling until we are confident we can meet additional appointments.”

While the public health department hopes to be able to meet appointments already scheduled, the public is encouraged to stay tuned to our team’s accurate sources of information and communications, as vaccine supply is subject to change.

“We hope that by the end of February we can reopen our scheduling process and see an increase in supply, but that is uncertain at this time. We will continue to provide more information as it is received,” Jenkins said.

People in vaccination stages 1 and 2 can still sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine waiting list at tinyurl.com/DCoVaccineWaitlist in English or tinyurl.com/DCoListaVacunas in Spanish to receive a call if a dose of vaccine due to appointment cancellations or no-shows.
