CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC – Flea Drop organizers in Eastover are gearing up for hundreds of people to attend the annual event.
Since 2010, city leaders celebrated the New Year celebration with a countdown and a drop of 30-pound ceramic fleas, signifying the city’s history. By 1800, the community was infested with fleas and was named Flea Hill. In 2007, the city changed its name to Eastover.
The New Year’s Eve event will feature a dance, children’s games and food sales.
“We try to do something that allows us to get together in a healthy way to have fun, get people together that don’t bump into us all the time and just have a fun evening,” president of New Year’s Eve Flea Drop, Susan Baggett, he said.
The Flea Drop will be on Tuesday, December 31 at 10pm at the Eastover Community Center. The event is free to the public.
