Saül Canelo Álvarez will not waste time to get back into the ring after his victory by unanimous decision on Callum Smith on December 19th.
Alvarez will face the obligatory scorer of the World Boxing Council (CMB) of 168 pounds, Avni Yildirim on Feb. 27 in a fight to return to his birthplace in Guadalajara, Mexico, the ‘Canelo’ manager said on Saturday, Eddy Reynoso.
“I don’t care if we fight in Mexico, the United States, Turkey or the Moon whenever I have my chance for the world title,” Yildirim said in a statement a couple of days ago for the English newspaper The Sun.
“For me, it’s not so much about fighting ‘Canelo’. It’s about fighting for the belt of the CMB World Championship, the world-famous green and gold belt, the biggest prize in boxing. I’ve been waiting this opportunity for a long time and I am very proud that it will finally happen, “he added.
In case the fight takes place on Mexican soil (there is talk of the Jalisco Stadium or the Charros baseball stadium), it would be the first fight of the ‘Canelo’ in Mexico since 2011, when he defended the CMB Lightweight Middleweight title front Kermit Cintrón in the Bullring of the CDMX.
