Edgar Vivar reveals what he did to get other roles after being categorized as “Mr. Belly”

Satisfied with his work and with many projects on the doorstep, Mexican actor Edgar Vivar said he has had to work twice as hard to prove his versatility in acting after great roles such as El Señor Panxa or Ñoño in “El Chavo de the 8 “(1971 -1980).

“The biggest challenge has been convincing producers that they could do different things“As the programs continued to be broadcast on television, I was competing with myself and I continue to do so,” Vivar explained.

This was the first test the actor had to go through and since then he understood how fundamental it was to learn to reinvent himself.

“Reinventing ourselves, there’s no choice,” he says Vivar, who remains active at 75 years old and in the midst of a pandemic with at least five films on the doorstep, participations in international events virtually or special performances in television series.

The most recent of these is the second season of “My Beloved Inheritance”, a series to which he came as a special guest and which thanks to his charisma and the affection of the public towards him was extended his participation for the second installment and is already preparing for the third.

“Elías Solorio invited me in a cordial way at random and the character was embedded a bit in this whole universe and now it seems that we are going for the third season. It gives me a lot of pleasure, more than anything to see that the public acceptance, “says Vivar, who plays a judge in the series.

“He’s not exactly a judge, he’s a notary, he was cold and distant at first but he seems to have started to take sides in history, for me it has been fun to discover, I am waiting for what the author writes “, says Vivar.

Comedy on television

The actor was a key part of the rise of television comedy in the 70s to be part of programs such as “El Chavo de l’8”, where he played Ñoño and Mr. Belly or the Bottle in one of Chespirito’s comic capsules “the Caquitos”.

“It’s a definite and golden important part of my career, I love them, I venerate them (the characters) and here they are but it’s nothing more. Out of respect for me, the audience and Roberto, I haven’t done anything because time does not forgive, “says the actor who has refused to revive these characters in the performance.

However, his view of comedy has evolved just like the times. In these times of severe criticism about what is right or wrong in this area, the actor acknowledges the good and bad of his first stage in comedy and, in turn, makes a harsh critique of the present.

“I am aware that some of the forms of comedy that were done before now at this time are not politically correct, such as‘ bullying ’a person for their physical appearance and that before was a reason for hilarity, but on the other hand now a language is used that in my time was limited to latrines, the letter ‘ch’ sounds not just to say the Colorado Chapulín, ”he says with a laugh .

For now, Vivar will be part of series such as “The Junior: The Mirrey of All Hoods,” the third season of “My Beloved Legacy,” as well as five more films.

Besides, the actor says he has spent his free time writing a memoir that he has no plans to publish and that in a very timely manner he mentions that this will be “the beloved inheritance” which he will leave to his family when he is no longer there.

“I did it for myself, it will be my legacy for my family if they decide to publish — when it is no longer there it will be their decision, I have had a very beautiful professional life,” Vivar mentions.
