An Egyptian woman was briefly arrested for allegedly baking sexually suggestive cakes that were eaten at a Cairo birthday party.
Prior to his arrest, photos of the spicy pastry – featuring cupcakes garnished with genitals and lingerie-shaped icing – went viral online.
According to The Guardian, Dar Al-ifta, the highest Islamic body, considered the risky confections to be an offense to Islam.
“Posting nude images, sweets, holograms and products with sexual expressions and fallen revelations is legitimately prohibited and legally criminal,” they wrote on Facebook.
The baker, who has been released on $ 319 bail, has denied cooking the scandalously dressed dessert.
Authorities are also investigating several women who attended the b-day party, as well as the high-end sports club that launched the festive party.
Human rights lawyer Negad El Borai went to the pastry chef’s defense and tweeted that the state he wanted to “eliminate any space of personal freedom in Egypt under the pretext of safeguarding Egyptian family values.”
It is not the first time that Islamic authorities have arrested a woman for “indecent” creations of recent times. Iranian Instagram star Sahar Tabar has recently been sentenced to a decade in prison after taking selfies, making her look like a “zombie Angelina Jolie.”
