Reefer madness!
Ellen DeGeneres is taking heat online to admit he drove his wife, Portia de Rossi, to the hospital in March after drinking three “weed drinks” and taking over-the-counter sleep aids.
DeGeneres admitted that what he did “probably wasn’t safe” to Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday during an episode of his marijuana-themed show.
DeGeneres explained that he found De Rossi on the bathroom floor of his house, visibly painful, but only after the daytime talk show had he consumed three Cann drinks and the melatonin that helped him sleep. He then drove Rossi to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy.
“Chelsea Handler told me about these weed drinks, they’re called Cann and they have CBD or [THC] – I don’t know what’s good, “said DeGeneres, 63.
“I drank one and felt nothing, so I drank three and then took two sleeping pills with melatonin,” he continued.
“And I’m lying in bed, and I realize it [Portia’s] not in bed, ”said DeGeneres. “She is moaning. I get out of bed, and he’s on all fours on the floor, and I said, “You’re not well.” She says, “I’m fine.” I said, “No, unless you’re playing Twister for yourself, you’re not okay.” So I rushed her to the emergency room. ”
Kimmel, 53, asked DeGeneres, “Did you drive her alone?”
“Yes,” she replied. “I mean, I suffered, like my adrenaline rush, because I just had to rush it there. Probably not safe.
“I shouldn’t say any of that,” DeGeneres added.
Some social media users – DeGeneres denied the anecdote as an example of her privilege, with a writing: “I could have killed someone. I’m very fed up with her with the right to,” according to the Daily Mail.
According to the company that produces Cann, Vana, its line of drinks with marijuana infusion varies in potency, from a mixture of 2 milligrams of THC combined with 4 milligrams of CBD to 5 milligrams of THC only. (For reference, the Marijuana Policy Project recommends that a first-time edible user start with a dose of 5 milligrams).
De Rossi, 48, was released the day after the proceedings. At the time, DeGeneres said he “had a lot of pain” after surgery, but that he “felt so much better now.”
