The Red Sox are about to get their next Brock Holt in the form of Enrique Hernández, a super utility player that plays all positions except the pickup.

A source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that the Sox and Hernandez reached an agreement on a two-year, $ 14 million deal. The club has not announced the signing.

Hernandez, who won a World Series with the Dodgers in 2020, will help fill the gap the Red Sox have at second base.

The Red Sox, who seem to lose Jackie Bradley Jr. in free agency and have hung Andrew Benintendi in business talks, they can also use Hernandez in the outside field.

While Hernandez’s defensive versatility is a clear benefit, as the Red Sox learned first-hand with Holt from 2014 to 19, he can also attack, especially against left-handers. In 893 appearances against leftists, Hernandez has a .820 OPS.

Hernandez hit a maximum of 21 homers in the Dodgers on the 18th and returned with 17 more on the 19th.

In 690 career games, all but 42 with the Dodgers, Hernandez has a .240 / .313 / .425 diagonal line with 71 homers and 227 RBI.

Defensively, Hernandez has divided his career starting as follows: 11 at first base, 132 at second base, 56 at short, 14 at third base, 60 at left, 128 at center and 35 at right .

While the Red Sox haven’t had any fun this winter, baseball chief Chaim Bloom has added depth to his group of players with Hunter Renfroe and Hernandez, as well as pitching staff with right-hander Matt Andriese and the left Martín Pérez
