Eric Gray, a former Tennessee, was heading to Oklahoma as a transfer

Tennessee runner-up Eric Gray is moving to Oklahoma, he announced Wednesday.

Gray, who led Tennessee with 772 running yards and finished second on the team with 30 receptions in 2020, entered the NCAA transfer portal last week after the dismissal of Flights, Jeremy Pruitt.

According to reports, the Gray 5 foot 10, 205 pound was deciding between Oklahoma and Texas, and he posted his decision on Twitter on Wednesday evening.

Gray emerged at the end of the 2019 season, leading Tennessee with four quick touchdowns and finishing second with 539 running yards in 101 runs. He earned honors to MVP in Tennessee’s Gator Bowl victory over Indiana.

The Memphis native finished his career with Flights with 1,311 versatile yards and 11 touchdowns (eight runs, three receiving). ESPN ranked Gray as the 19th and 263rd player in the 2019 recruiting category.

Gray was withdrawn from the Tennessee end of season against Dec. 19 for undisclosed reasons, but sources told ESPN he lost the game due to an internal investigation into possible NCAA violations. Announcing Pruitt’s dismissal last week, Tennessee Chancellor Donde Plowman said the internal investigation indicated that serious NCAA violations had been committed.

Oklahoma also loses top running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who will enter the 2021 NFL draft, while No. 2 running back TJ Pledger moved to Utah. The Sooners averaged 179.7 running yards per game in 2020.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach contributed to this report.
