ESPN will broadcast World Under-23 Baseball from Mexico

ESPN will broadcast, in English and Spanish and through various channels, all the matches of the Under 23 Baseball World Cup, which will be played in two cities in Sonora, Mexico, from September 23 to October 2.

Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora, will host Group B and the Super Round, while Ciudad Obregón will host Group A and the qualifying round that will determine the places from 7 to 12. The grand final for the title will be played on Saturday, October 2 in Hermosillo, the World Confederation of Baseball and Softball (WBSC) has reported.

ESPN Esports, ESPN3 and ESPN + will share the nine-day championship matches. The clashes to determine the top three places will go to ESPN Sports.

Germany, Cuba, Mexico, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic and Taiwan form Group A, while Colombia, South Korea, Nicaragua, the Netherlands, Panama and Venezuela form Group B. All group members will face each other in the first round, to determine the six countries that will advance to the Super Round.

Earlier, the WBSC had approved expanding to 24 the age limit for participating players, due to the delay in assembling the tournament as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Peloteros born between 1997 and 2003 will be eligible to integrate the selections of their countries.

ESPN aired all of America’s qualifying matches and the WBSC playoffs for the Tokyo Olympics. In addition, the world leader in sports has had the first four editions of the World Baseball Classic, organized by the WBSC, the American Major Leagues and the Major League Players Association (MLBPA), among other events.
