Evacuations were ordered to burn in the woods at Cherry Creek State Park

AURORA, Colorado. – A bushfire in a wetland area of Cherry Creek State Park has resulted in forced evacuations to the area.

The evacuations are in effect for residents in the area just west of Parker Road and people inside Cherry Creek State Park.

This is the second major firefighting team fighting strong gusts of wind in the subway area. A 100-acre grass fire burning near Bear Creek Lake Park and Fox Hollow Golf Course near Morrison sparked evacuations Sunday afternoon. Most of the fire was extinguished in the late afternoon.

South Metro firefighters are at the Cherry Creek flame scene and are working to control the fire before the lengths of the flame are greater with continued gusts of wind. There are no threatened structures at this time.

Firefighters said the wind feeds the northwest side of the fire, making it difficult to suppress as the embers enter the trees and cause branches to fall.
