Eversource has increased the number of possible power outages as the state prepares for Hurricane Henri.
Officials said the energy company will declare a Level 2 Emergency Response Plan (ERP) on Sunday at 6 p.m.
According to Eversource, between 50% and 69% of its customers in the state could lose energy and restoration efforts could take between eight and 21 days.
Since trees are the number one cause of power outages during storms and because many of Connecticut’s trees have weakened due to insects and the saturated terrain of recent storms, authorities said thousands of trees could go down to the hurricane.
“As Henri approaches, we have been relocating crews, equipment and other resources accordingly, so that we are prepared for the significant and widespread damage we can expect from this storm,” said Craig, president of Eversource regional electrical operations. Hallstrom partly in a statement.
Eversource urges customers to stay away from any downed cables and report them immediately to 911.
