Everyone can take a COVID-19 test at home now, and your insurance can pay for it: BGR

  • As the coronavirus continues to grow throughout the United States, it is important for people who plan to meet with family and friends to get tested.
  • COVID-19 test kits at home are becoming more common and can even be covered with standard health insurance plans.
  • Coronavirus testing kits currently require a nasal swab, but Bill Gates believes less invasive options will be available in 2021.

It has never been so easy to take a COVID-19 test, which is good news as the current coronavirus pandemic is worse than it has ever been. In fact, one of the reasons coronavirus increases is because people who have the virus and are relatively asymptomatic can spread it unintentionally to anyone they come in contact with. In view of this, and with the Christmas holidays behind, many health experts fear that January will be the worst month of the entire pandemic.

Simply put, if you’ve been with people outside of your capsule or if you plan to do so, the smart step is to get tested regardless of whether or not you’ve experienced symptoms. The good news is that COVID tests at home are plentiful and relatively easy to use.

An option for COVID testing at home comes from LabCorp. The company has a home collection kit with a nasal swab. All you have to do is send the swab sample back to the company and they will let you know if it is positive for COVID-19. The company notes that the average waiting time for the results is approximately 1-2 days after returning the sample. It’s also worth mentioning that LabCorp works 7 days a week

What makes the LabCorp testing option so appealing is that you can use your health insurance when you place your order.

The site states:

Please note that no down payment is required to obtain a kit. Federal legislation enacted in March 2020 requires comprehensive private health insurance plans to cover this test and provides funds for reimbursement to COVID-19 test providers for uninsured patients. If you choose to pay out of pocket, you decide not to request a refund through this mechanism.

When placing an order, LabCorp will withdraw insurance information to streamline the entire process.

If you don’t have insurance or if your carrier doesn’t cover it, the LabCorp test kit costs $ 119, which is quite expensive. But don’t worry, there are other homemade test kit options available. As we discussed earlier this month, Walmart and Sam’s Club now also sell coronavirus testing kits that cost as little as $ 99, depending on the type of shipping option you choose. In addition, these kits include a telecare call in cases where a person actually tests positive for COVID-19.

Walmart’s COVID-19 test kit can be purchased here, while Sam’s Club’s coronavirus test kit can be found right here.
