House Freedom Caucus President Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) On Thursday introduced a bill that would ban federal government agencies from issuing or requiring “vaccine passports,” according to a copy of legislation first obtained by The Hill.
The bill, entitled “Vaccine-Free Passport Act,” would stipulate that federal agencies could not issue standardized documentation proving that a person has obtained a COVID-19 vaccine nor could they require proof of a COVID-19 vaccine for access to federal lands.
“Vaccine passports will not help our nation recover from COVID-19; instead, they will simply impose more Big Brother surveillance on our society,” Biggs said in a statement to The Hill.

Legislation is facing a tough battle for the Democratic-controlled House, and Biden administration officials have made it clear on several occasions that they have no intention of supporting or participating in any federalized passport vaccine program. and, instead, they would be postponed to the private sector to determine need for any kind of documentation.

While no real vaccine passport system has been established, and agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) have questioned its potential usefulness, this has not stopped conservatives from coming out preventively in strong opposition to the concept.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Monday issued an executive order banning vaccine passports, saying a system to track those who have been inoculated against COVID-19 violates citizens’ rights.
Greene, the controversial congresswoman whose conspiratorial remarks have drawn criticism even from some of her own party, last week called the proposal a form of “corporate communism.”
Opposition arises when polls show Republicans are one of the groups least likely to say they will definitely get the coronavirus vaccine. Earlier, Biggs was opposed to mandates forcing Americans to put on masks or get the coronavirus vaccine.
Some public health experts have argued that requiring vaccination tests could make Americans feel safer, as they facilitate regular activities during the pandemic, such as attending large events or eating inside a restaurant. But business leaders are divided on the idea and have been hesitant to adopt a system that could discriminate against those who hesitate for one reason or another.

“I am in favor of some kind of vaccine passport as a way to start opening international borders,” he said.
“I guess we won’t end up doing this nationally and hopefully we’ll get close enough to the herd’s immunity for us to be okay,” he said. “I don’t see it happening in the US”
