President Luis Abinader said yesterday that the government has identified and is monitoring Haiti’s criminal gangs, while warning them not to enter Dominican territory.
“We know them and we know who each of the leaders of the gangs are and we have a very clear intelligence about each of them,” the president said during an interview on the program Matinal, which is broadcast by Telemicro, channel 5 .
The president was emphatic that in the Dominican Republic there are Armed Forces and effective Police, so he has warned not to enter here.
“I recommend that they do not enter because there are armed forces and a clear police here,” he said.
Abinader clarified that so far these gangs have not posed problems for the Dominican Republic, but he was emphatic that this country will continue to work for its security.
“So far these bands have not been an issue but we are giving him a follow up with a lot of details,” he stressed.
He stressed that the country will continue to invest in its security, integrating more police, better trained and well paid, and explained that this is also one of the purposes of the perimeter fence that will be built on the border.
