Smart glasses may suggest augmented reality features, but Facebook’s Ray-Ban stories are similar to the other connected sunglasses on the market and are limited to making phone calls, taking photos, and listening to music.

Ray-Ban Stories is equipped with a set of built-in 5-megapixel cameras on each side of the frame, which can record 30-second photos and videos using a button or hands-free with the Facebook Wizard.

There is a hard cable LED light that comes on every time you take a photo or video so other people don’t notice.

To listen to music, Ray-Ban stories have speakers open and there is a set of three microphones for calls. Ray-Ban’s stories have a built-in battery that lasts up to six hours and a portable charging case, which Facebook claims will provide up to three consecutive days of glasses use, but some reviewers they said that the battery runs out quickly if the glasses are not turned off while not in use.

Facebook smart glasses work with the Facebook View app, designed to allow users to share stories of views, photos and more on social media. According to Facebook, the app is designed to facilitate content sharing on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Twitter, TikTok and Snapchat.

Ray-Ban stories are presented in various iconic Ray-Ban styles like Wayfarer, and there are five color options. Lenses include clear, sun, transition and prescription. There is no Facebook brand in the glasses, as the design and distribution have been managed by Ray-Ban’s parent company, Luxottica, with Facebook providing its internal features.

Those interested in purchasing a set of Facebook Ray-Ban stories can do so from the Ray-Ban website starting today. Ray-Ban stories are also available in some retail stores in the United States, Australia, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
