Faculty of Medicine asks “the whole population” to be vaccinated to reduce the risk – Information – 2021.03.12

A record number of new cases were reported in Uruguay yesterday coronavirus, With 1,238 reported infections, according to the latest data from the National Emergency System (Sinae).

The upward trajectory of the contagion curve set off alarms and caused this Friday the Faculty of Medicine of the University of the Republic (UdelaR) issued a statement calling on “the entire population to be vaccinated as a way to reduce personal and collective risk.”

This Friday began the immunization of health personnel, with doses of the vaccine from Pfizer and BioNtech, the first batch arrived in Uruguay this week. March 1, meanwhile, was the starting point for the vaccination campaign with the vaccine Sinovac, La Coronavac.

The text, signed by the Dean of Medicine, Miguel Martínez Asuaga, recalls the “current serious epidemiological situation”, which generates “concern” in this faculty and leads it to recommend “strengthening all measures aimed at reducing the spread” of viruses.

The need to maintain physical distancing, the use of mouthpieces and hand hygiene is recalled.

On the other hand, the communiqué states that “the teaching activities of the undergraduate degree will remain in virtual mode until the country’s health situation improves”.

It also “calls for strengthening the care activity of teachers in all services in which the Faculty of Medicine participates, maximizing personal protection measures.”
