Amazing but that’s how it happened, one woman thought she was really talking to the singer Bruno Mars who in addition to asking for money and even marriage, was sadly only swindled by a man who impersonated the musician.
It all happened in Texas, as reported by CBS 11 News, but the identity of the scammed woman whom they have called Jane was not revealed.
It all started in 2018, when Jane was dealing with the recent one loss of her husband. Social media became one of his salvation, finding company that mitigated his feelings of sadness and loneliness through conversations with people from various parts of the country.
One day, he received a message with the well-known song Bruno Mars “Marry You”. When Jane inquired into his profile, he realized that he had photos of the artist and that his name was the same, so he assumed that whoever had contacted him he was the singer himself.
The friendship grew and Jane was building more trust, than expected Bruno Mars he asked her for help. Apparently, he had left the cars he had been without paying using during his last tour and needed urgently $ 5,000.
The scammer later asked for more money so he could pay for his tour, so the woman ended up sending him $ 90,000.
He even proposed marriage to her
In addition, the fake Mars proposed marriage to her, sent her an engagement ring, while she built a recording studio in the garage of her house.
But did they ever meet?
Just the day he was going to show up to collect the money he needed, there were some men who did it instead.. He was told that the singer had been detained by police and that he could not attend his appointment. In fact, they even showed him some photos retouched with Photoshop to prove it.
Although the bad joke lasted several months, it would not be forever, as when things did not start to square the woman, she was threatened.
“They threatened to poison me and kill me if I didn’t get their money. That’s how it got to the end,” she says of the moment she demanded that their money be returned to her. Eventually, the matter ended up in the hands of the local police who found evidence of guilt in two Nigerian citizens.
