Berlin, Germany /
The German amateur organization “ProFans” called on the German Football Federation (DFB) to boycott the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, through a statement made public today.
“We know very well that many football fans look forward to the matches of the German national team. We are equally aware that a World Cup is the culmination of the footballers’ careers,” the organization said.
“But there is nothing to justify the acceptance of human rights violations in Qatar, Or even put support, approving their participation in the tournament “, denounces” ProFans “.
“We ask the DFB to cancel its participation in the World Cup in Qatar,” the entity demands.
MORE THAN 6 THOUSAND FOREIGN WORKERS HAVE DIED IN QATAR
The British newspaper “The Guardian” recently revealed that more than 6,500 foreign workers had died in Qatar since 2010, Year in which the 2022 World Cup was awarded. The newspaper quoted figures from the Government of Qatar itself.
The human rights organization, Amnesty International, then called on Qatar to independently investigate the deaths of migrant workers.
However, the country government said the mortality rate among millions of foreign workers it was within what was expected and that newspaper information was misleading public opinion.
However, voices in favor of a boycott are becoming stronger. Qatar would be “A football festival over the graves of thousands of migrant workers. Participating in this would be the end of ethics and dignity, “says” ProFans “, which also gives football a social responsibility.
“If the DFB wants to retain any vestige of credibility, it must cancel its participation in this tournament, and it must do so now.”, Claims the statement.
