Sunday marked a new milestone in the vaccination effort against COVID-19 in Santa Clara County, as workers in education and child care, emergency services and the food and agricultural industries they were eligible for vaccination.
At the Monterey Mushrooms facility in Morgan Hill, health officials began the process of vaccinating 1,000 agricultural workers as part of a two-day effort.
“Our goal in the county is to make sure everyone has access to vaccination when they are eligible, and especially those who work in sectors that have been most affected by COVID and who work in communities that have been most affected by COVID here at our county, “said county health chief Dr. Sara Cody.
Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, county COVID-19 testing and vaccination officer, said Sunday nearly 20 percent of the county has been vaccinated at this time.
“We have a big capacity, we have a lot of clinics, we have providers all over the county, we just need more vaccine,” he said. “We hope to see more vaccine arrive through the federal government state, especially now that the FDA authorizes Johnson & Johnson’s third vaccine.”
