Father, 12-year-old daughter dies in Shelby Township accident

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Michigan (WXYZ): A father and his 12-year-old daughter, both from Macomb Township, have died in a car accident in which a commercial truck was seen, according to local police.

The fatal crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Van Dyke and 21 Mile Road area. A Dodge Ram truck, driven by the father, and a commercial vehicle, collided at the intersection, according to police. The Dodge was completely engulfed in flames.

Inside the Dodge was a 45-year-old father and his two children, both 12 years old. One of the 12-year-old girls, a girl, died along with her father in the crash. The other 12-year-old boy is in hospital with serious injuries.

After an initial investigation, it was found that the Dodge truck was traveling north on Van Dyke and turning left on 21 Mile Road. The commercial truck was heading south through Van Dyke and was traveling through the intersection of 12 Mile Road when the collision occurred.

According to police, the driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured. He was interviewed at the scene and released pending the outcome of the investigation.
