Father arrested in India for beheading his 17-year-old daughter

Sarvesh Kumar was arrested Wednesday night while walking towards a Hardoi district police station, with his 17-year-old daughter’s head cut off.

“He was walking to the police station to confess to what he had done,” a Hardoi police spokesman told CNN on Friday.

“He told police he had seen his daughter with a young man he thinks he saw, which angered him while he was against it,” the spokesman added.

While Kumar, a vegetable vendor from Pandetara village, was walking a mile from his home to the police station, local passers-by alerted the police, who stopped him and started filming him.

During this time, according to the police spokesperson, Kumar informed the authorities of his daughter’s relationship, saying he had found her alone at home, locked her in a room and cut off her head with a knife.

“Given the situation, he was calm. He wasn’t crying or hysterical. When the cops talked to him, they asked him to put his daughter’s head on the floor and sit down, which she listened to without arguing.” the police spokesman told CNN.

Kumar is currently being held where he is still being questioned, the spokesman added. A list of charges will be compiled once the investigation is completed. Once he has been formally charged, he will have access to a public lawyer and will remain detained until trial, police said.
