Dr. Anthony Fauci re-entered a bit back and forth with a Fox News anchor on Tuesday, this time backing up against Sandra Smith’s complaint that the “porters keep moving” in the use of masks.
During an appearance on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom On Monday, Fauci, who is now President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, thwarted Bill Hemmer’s attempt to interview President Donald Trump, noting that Hemmer’s partner Dana Perino had just left. say they should “leave it behind” and move forward.
A day later, Fauci appeared once again on Fox, this time sitting in a full interview with Smith and his anchor John Roberts. For the most part, the interview was fairly collegial, as the two anchors focused their questions on the Biden administration’s coronavirus policies and vaccine distribution plans.
Towards the end of the conversation, however, it became a bit difficult when Smith hit Fauci’s recent observations that double masking has “common sense” and is very likely to be more effective at protecting against viral spread than carrying a single mask.
“So if you have a physical coating with one coat, put on another, it just makes sense that it would probably be more effective. That’s why you see people doing double masking or doing a version of an N95,” he said. said Fauci last week.
“Dr. Fauci, it looks like the gates keep moving, “Smith said, noting that California has additional problems as new coronavirus strains appear.
“We all try to do what is necessary to stay safe. We all wear masks and hope most people do. Now we feel we should bring two, ”she continued before escaping:“ If I go to the grocery store, do I bring two, do I carry three? Is it safer to carry eight? Where does it stop ?! ”
Fauci, for his part, retorted that the “discussion is changing, not the goals,” adding that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not officially recommend anyone wearing a double mask.
“What they say is,‘ Do you know what a good start would be? If everyone wears at least one mask, “he said,” I think it would be important. So the CDC’s recommendations haven’t changed. What we’re trying to do is get people who don’t wear masks to use them. “
