Fauci says 20,000 pregnant women have COVID vax without “red flags”

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Wednesday that about 20,000 pregnant women have received the COVID-19 vaccine “without red flags.”

The top infectious disease expert announced the update at a White House briefing on Wednesday, adding that both the CDC and the FDA are monitoring the situation.

Guidelines for pregnant women receiving the coronavirus vaccine have varied as they did not participate in either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine trials.

But Fauci said Wednesday that clinical trials on COVID-19 vaccines for pregnant women and children are underway, and that more will come.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that pregnant women discuss with their health care provider the decision to get vaccinated.

The World Health Organization, however, does not recommend that pregnant women receive the COVID-19 vaccine unless they have a high risk of exposure.
