NEW YORK – Dr. Anthony Fauci predicts April will be “open season” for vaccinations in the United States, as rising supply allows most people to receive shots to protect themselves against COVID-19.
Fauci, who is a scientific adviser to President Joe Biden, says the vaccination rate will accelerate sharply in the coming months. It credits the upcoming deliveries of the two approved vaccines, the potential approval of a third, and the moves taken by the Biden administration to increase the country’s capacity to administer doses.
According to him, “by April” it will be “open season, that is, virtually everyone and anyone in any category could start getting vaccinated.”
He warned that it would take “a few more months” to administer injections logistically to American adults, but predicted that the herd’s immunity could be achieved by the end of summer.
