Talking to the host Chuck ToddCharles (Chuck) David ToddTrudeau praises Biden: “It’s great to see how the United States recovers” The president of the teachers’ union: “There is no perfect solution” for the reopening of schools on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Fauci explained that more data is needed to make sure the three vaccines authorized by the Food and Drug Administration can be safely administered to younger children.

“If you project realistically when we get enough data to be able to say that primary school children will be able to get vaccinated, I would think this would be the earliest at the end of the year and most likely the first quarter of 2022,” he said. Fauci.

“But for high school kids, it looks like sometime this fall,” he continued. “I’m not sure it’s exactly the first day the school opens, but almost close to that.”

Fauci also expressed support for the newly licensed vaccine produced by Johnson & Johnson, and told NBC he would get that vaccine if he was in a situation where he was the first to have access to it.

“Well, Chuck, first of all, you now have three highly effective vaccines, for sure,” Fauci said. “There is no doubt. And especially the recent results of [Johnson & Johnson] – if you look at the effectiveness against serious diseases, over 85%, and there have been no hospitalizations or deaths in several countries, even in countries that have variants.

“If you go somewhere and you have it[Johnson & Johnson] , and this is what is available now, I would take it. I personally would do the same, ”he said.

Fauci’s comments come as there has been debate across the country about what percentage of teachers and possibly students should receive a COVID-19 vaccine before schools can safely reopen for face-to-face learning.

The Biden administration pledged to reopen schools in the first 100 days of the president’s tenure, raising concerns from some teachers who have worried about getting them back to work without accessing a vaccine.

“The president will not rest until each school is open five days a week. That is our goal,” the White House press secretary said.
