The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested this morning an adviser in the municipality of Mayaguez known as Arnaldo J. Irizarry.
The federal agency made several arrests this morning, it has confirmed to Subway its spokeswoman, Limary Ros Rosary. The official indicated that seven arrests were made in the operation of the federal authorities.
Although the charges for his arrest were not disclosed, authorities pointed to a case of alleged fraud.
According to various media, the investigation could revolve around a $ 9 million transaction carried out by the municipality of Mayagüez on speculative funds.
The Federal District Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico is expected to reveal today the charges for which Irizarry was arrested in a press release. The spokeswoman confirmed to this newspaper that the authorities will not hold a press conference.
In July 2019, the mayor of Mayagüez acknowledged to the country media that the FBI was investigating this transaction.
