In a statement to The Associated Press, FBI Special Agent Jason Pack said authorities are “aware that the suspect sent materials defending his views to various acquaintances across the country.”
Authorities say Anthony Warner, 63, was responsible for the blast, which damaged dozens of buildings and injured several people. Warner died in the blast and officials have not revealed any reason.
Pack did not disclose additional details about the contents of the Warner packages, but urged anyone who had received Warner material to contact the FBI at 800-CALL-FBI.
The bombing took place on Christmas morning long before the streets of the center were boiled with activity. Police were responding to a report of gunfire Friday when they encountered the RV sounding a warning that a bomb would detonate in 15 minutes. Then, inexplicably, the audio shifted to a recording of Petula Clark’s 1964 hit “Downtown” shortly before the explosion.
